After unboxing your printer, place it on a stable, flat surface. The accessories provided with each printer package can vary depending on your location.
- Remove the packing material from the outer body of the printer. Lift the scanner lid and clear away the styrofoam sheet from the scanner glass. Discard the plastic tape from the cartridge access area. Raise the cartridge access door until it locks into place. Pull out the input and the output trays and remove any packing material present inside.
- Connect the power cord to the rear end of the printer. Connect the other end of the power cord into the power socket. Turn on your printer by pressing the Power button. Set the preferred language, the location, date and time. To load paper into the printer, pull out the paper tray and slide out the paper width guides to its maximum position.
- Load a stack of paper and adjust the paper width guides according to the size of the paper and close the tray. To insert the cartridges, take them out of the box and remove the plastic tape. Hold it on the sides and twist the plastic cap to remove it. Insert the cartridge into its slot and push it into position until it locks into its place. Align the cartridge to start using it.
- The power light will flash when the printer is charging and it stays on when completed. The initial ink cartridges will be partly used to charge the printhead. So they may print fewer pages compared to subsequent ink cartridges. You can reduce the paper consumption and the impact on the environment by enabling automatic duplex settings.
Wireless printer setup
Connect the printer to the network and then install the print driver and software from the HP website. Choose Wireless as the connection type, when prompted during the installation. Note down the wireless network name and password.
- Power on your printer and place it close to the computer so that they lie within the range of the router during the setup procedure. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
- From the home screen on your printer’s control panel, touch the Wireless icon. Select the Setup icon and click the Wireless Setup Wizard option. This will help you connect the printer to your network.
- Your printer will search for the available networks. Touch your network’s name in the list of available networks and then touch OK. If prompted, type the WEP. Touch OK to return to the home screen.
- If there is a connection error, check if you have typed the uppercase and lowercase letters for the network name and password exactly.
- On your printer’s control panel, navigate to the Setup icon and select it. Select Wireless Settings and then select Wireless Setup Wizard. Your printer will search for routers within range.
- Select your network name and then enter the network password. If the network name is not displayed, then enter it manually. On the network selection window, select the Enter New Network Name option.
- Enter the network name, make sure the uppercase and lowercase letters are entered exactly as they appear. After entering the network name, enter the network password and then select OK.
- On the confirmation screen, select OK to confirm the settings. The printer will now be connected to the wireless network. Try to print a sample document and check the connectivity.
USB Printer Setup (Windows & Mac)
Uninstall any previously installed driver software from your computer. Obtain a USB cable less than 3 m in length. Turn on your printer and keep it in a ready state.
- To change from a wireless connection to a USB, open System Preferences. Depending on your operating system, click Print & Fax, Print, Scan & Fax, or Printers & Scanners in the Hardware section.
- Choose your printer in the left pane and click – at the bottom of the list. Open HP Utility. This will be located in the HP folder in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard disk.
- Choose Devices, Setup New Device and follow the prompts. In case an error occurs, reset the USB connection and follow the same instructions given above to print the document.
- You can also reset the settings by uninstalling the driver software. When you are reinstalling the updated software, choose the connection type to be USB.
- If the USB cable is connected to the computer before installing the HP driver, disconnect the same. The USB cable should not be connected until it is prompted during the installation.
- On your computer, search for ‘devices’ and then select Devices and Printers from the list of results. Right-click the printer icon of your printer model, and then click Remove device.

Printing With Mopria Print Service (Android)

- Select Use HP Download and Install Assistant and click the Install Now option. Check if your printer’s serial number is displayed in the HP Printer Update window and then click Update. When the update is over, restart the computer.
- On your system, check the wireless signal strength by clicking the wireless connection icon. If the signal strength is low, then move the devices closer to the router. Make sure there are no additional strains on your network, they can significantly affect the print speed.

‘Paper Jam’ Error
Make sure the paper used meets the media specifications. Check if the printer is placed on a flat surface such that the input tray is not bent when it is pushed in. Loose paper in the input or output tray may cause a paper jam.
- Pull out the output tray and remove any loose paper that is present. Remove all the papers from the input tray and check for any jammed paper.
- To avoid tearing whole sheets of paper, pull the paper with both hands. Turn the printer so you can access its base. Remove any jammed paper from underneath the printer.
- Unlock the ink cartridge access door and look for any packing material, paper debris or loose objects that might have shifted when the printer was turned over.
- Disconnect the power cord and check for any jammed paper from inside the printer. Thoroughly check the paper path for any torn pieces of paper and remove them.
- Check if the carriage can move freely across the width of the printer and it is not stuck in one end. Reconnect the power cord to the printer and wall outlet. Try to print a test document.
